Donna, you did a very good job in capturing the essence of Dylan. With a couple of minor tweeks, this image can go from very good to great.
Great subjects, I am partial to children as a subject.
I like that you are thinking out of the box with the angle on this.
Use of camera,
It looks like an Auto shot with the camera controlling the exposure.
The Depth of Field is good except that the point of focus is the post and not the subject.
The colors look good and with a little help the lighting would be great.
I give this an 8 because it seems the autofocus picked up the post in fromt of the subject making it sharper than the subject.
Dylan was under control of his actions and was calm enjoying the day. He was being him self. So I quickly needed to capture it.
Camera: Canon Rebel T1i
Lens: Standard: 30-50mm

How to improve your photo
Watch your focus point. If you have all of the snsors turned on it will pick up the closest most dominating point and make it the sharp point as seen with the post . By using the single pointfeatures you could have zerod in on Dylans face and it would have popped.
A little fill light into the face would have brought even more attention to the subject, whether by a small white reflector or even a pop of fill flash.
By changing the crop from a landscape to a portrait (horizontal to a vertical) you would lose some of the overexposed background that draws you eye away from the subject a bit.
